Quote from the CD booklet:  "Unlike many other all-star bands assembled by clever promotors, the sextet that toured the world in fall 1971 rightly had its name, The Giants of Jazz.

Each member -- except Al McKibbon, who interrupted his studio work -- was a "star" and band leader in his own right.  And each of them -- except Kai Winding, who started his career with the Benny Goodman and Stan Kenton big bands -- had their share in the creation of bebop in the mid-forties while, at the same time, developing their individual styles of musical expression.

The Giants of Jazz worked as a blowing session showcasing the combined powers of some of the greatest individuals in the history of modern jazz.

Three years later, Dizzy Gillespie lead a quintet, including Sonny Stitt, which combined the fervor of early bebop with some Latin and up-to-date funky tinge."
