 Introduction

I feel like someone who has just discovered a treasure. No, I'm not totally new to Sergio Mendes, but I am new to all his various styles of musicianship as evidenced by the albums he has produced spanning four decades. For years, all the Mendes I owned consisted of The Brasil '66 Greatest Hits album. I liked it a lot, but I didn't investigate SM further due to my devotion to other musicians--and as a result, just never got around to hearing all the music that is Sergio Mendes. Until now. I got so inspired after hearing some of the early instrumental albums made in Brazil that I just had to put this tribute website together in his honor. I will keep exploring all there is about this terrific musician, arranger, and producer in endeavoring to keep this site updated. I will include new releases and news of Sergio's doings as it becomes available. Welcome to The Salute to Sergio Mendes!

Special Note of Thanks: the following people generously donated information to be used on this site, including text information, album covers, photos and more:  Claudio Slon, Harry Neyhart, William Kenlon, JM Kaufman, Sergio Ximenes, Daniel Slon, Joel Kent, Paula Worhatch, Augusto Troncoso, Kimson Plaut, Laura McCarthy, Giko, Dom Um Romão, Shimon Israel, Randy Kosht, Lawrence Hartline, Mike Blakesley, Larry Witten, Eduardo Bravo, Gregory Flores, John Merkelbagh, Peter Bay, Wolfgang Weissbrodt, R. Rembert Aranda, Hans-Peter Huebschen, Arnaldo DeSouteiro, & Ithamara Koorax.  All of the foreign reissues featuring Cannonball Adderley with Sergio Mendes & The Bossa Rio Sextet pictured on this site were generously offered and provided by Gilles Miton in France and are used with permission.  Additional thanks go to Leslie Pfenninger of On A&M Records for providing needed foreign issue listing information and additional cover photos.

Here I need to state a few brief words that, unfortunately, have become necessary:

Please *do not* contact me:

--to obtain information on where to buy recordings by this artist (or any such related questions, like is such-and-such title still in print, do you have it to sell, would you make me a copy of yours, etc.);

--to obtain information regarding the purchase of any sheet music involving this artist; information on this, if available, is given directly within this site;

--to assist you with any research you are doing or questions you have on any artist covered in these discographies, for any reason.  This domain is for informational purposes only and meant to be used as a resource in and of itself.

Due to the number of such requests I am receiving, they will be ignored.

This discography work is *not* my job, I do not get paid any salary for doing this work and I give of my own free time to constantly add to and update the material here.  Please be respectful of my time.  Thank you.

Please Donate!

Below you will find a PayPal button for your convenience to donate funds so that I can meet my costs for keeping the sites online.  I am a verified member of PayPal.  I neither accept nor solicit outside advertising to be placed on any of the artist pages, nor will I ever do so.   Advertising totally intrudes on what I want to achieve with these sites.  I am most happy to provide my time and energy in adding to and updating these sites on a daily basis, but I need help in paying for the internet space, internet provider, and domain name registration year after year.  These costs are not insignificant.  My discographies - which now span ten music artists and two music journalists - make up well over 500 pages of internet information!   They are the largest discographies of their kind on the entire internet.  Please consider donating if you have found these discographies to be a worthwhile resource for yourself or for your organization.  Thank you.
